Library Alert Service

< Back to FAQ INDEX

What is the Library Alert Service?

yourhomework.com provides a vital communication link between teachers and librarians. Teachers select school and local libraries to be notified of research assignments from a list of participating libraries. When the teacher enters an assignment in yourhomework.com, a box can be marked to send a copy to the selected libraries. Librarians can prepare for the students by knowing about the topic, requirements and due date in advance.

How do libraries receive Library Alerts?

Library systems and school libraries register each location to receive electronic Library Alerts. Library Alerts are delivered directly and instantly to the library's email account. There is no technical requirement for the library other than an email account. The library's email address is not visible to teachers, students, or parents.

What information will be received in the Library Alert?

An exact copy of the teacher's assignment will be sent, along with the name of the school, course, and teacher's email address.

Is the Library Alert Service Free?

Yes, this is a FREE service. As teachers post assignments on yourhomework.com, automatic notification of student research assignments will allow librarians to better serve students and support education.

Can both school and public libraries participate?

Yes, any library can register to receive Library Alerts. Teachers select which libraries will receive a copy of research assignments via email. Since the Library Alert Service is new and unique, please let librarians know of this opportunity to communicate with teachers online.

How do libraries promote the Library Alert Service?

The Library Alert Service is an opportunity for public libraries to connect with education in their community. Libraries can promote the Library Alert Service to schools and teachers, as well as link to yourhomework.com from their library web site. Materials are available for downloading and printing. These materials can be displayed in library branches, sent to local schools and districts, or mailed directly to teachers.

Can libraries provide daily homework information?

Students need a place to look up their assignments on the Internet. When there is no Internet access in the home, libraries provide safe community Internet access to students and parents. A link to yourhomework.com from the library web page adds educational content directly from local teachers. Information about yourhomework.com in study areas or "homework centers" is also effective.
