Teachers can also build a custom web page in minutes that puts their courses, assignments, uploaded files, email, secure chatrooms, and favorite web sites on one convenient page for students and parents. How will
posting my assignments on the Web MAKE MY JOB EASIER?
By making your assignments
available on the Internet, you allow students and parents to be more
self-reliant and accountable. Eliminate excuses and student-to-student
miscommunication. Decrease the number of missing assignments to hunt down. Make
your expectations clear to parents and students. Save time and stay organized
(see below).
How will
posting my assignments on the Web SAVE ME TIME?
You will repeat yourself less
and spend more time answering meaningful questions by referring students and
parents to yourhomework.com or using printouts of assignments. Absent students
access daily homework without parents calling you at school. Traveling or ill
students access all your homework assignments at one time. Give a printout of
assignments to the school office when requests for assignments come from parents,
tutors, counselors. Avoid re-writing assignments! For more detail see Time
Saving Tips for Teachers.
How will
posting my assignments on the Web KEEP ME ORGANIZED?
Keep a printout in your
possession for your own quick reference during class. Use printed assignments
in parent/teacher conferences. Be prepared with assignments for counselors or
tutors. Keep printout of assignments for next semester/year. Post your class
assignment on the site for the substitute teacher when you are absent. For more
details see Creative Uses for Teachers.
What is the custom web page feature?
Every teacher can create a custom web page in minutes! You receive a
unique URL, and we'll host it for you. There are many templates
available, or you can build your own. No knowledge of HTML or web page
design is necessary, and your page will link to your assignments,
favorite sites, chatrooms and email automatically. Change your
template as often as you like, and add images, links, and uploaded
documents with our WYSIWYG editor.
I teach multiple subjects. Is it possible to have a web page for every course?
Only one homepage (located at www.yourhomework.com/YourUsername/index.html) can be associated with each teacher account.
Advanced users only: you may upload as many additional pages as you wish. For example, if you have access to your own HTML editor, you could create pages on your local computer (possibly called science.html and math.html) and upload them through the File Manager to the 'Public' folder, along with supporting files such as graphics. Those pages will then be available at www.yourhomework.com/teachers/YourUsername/science.html and www.yourhomework.com/teachers/YourUsername/math.html. Note that additional pages will not automatically use the same design as your chosen yourhomework template, and cannot be edited online. You must build and continue to edit these pages on your local computer. For this reason, this option is recommended for advanced users only, and we cannot provide support for pages created outside the supplied templates.
Is it possible to change the URL of my webpage or my yourhomework.com email address?
After you have registered and your account has been fully approved, your website URL and your yourhomework.com email address cannot be altered.
Can I post
assignments for more than one course?
There is no limit to the number
of courses you can create. Elementary school teachers can list their homework
under a course named for the grade they teach. For example, a teacher with the last name Nolan teaching in second grade would appear: "Ms. Nolan, Second Grade". Middle
or high school teachers can create individual courses. For example: "Ms. Nolan, Algebra."
How can I print all assignments for a course?
Select the Courses tab on your Personal Page, then click the View as a Student icon for the course in question. Use the 'Print all assignments' icon displayed on that page.
How can I delete all assignments for a course?
Select the Courses tab on your Personal Page, then click the Major Maintenance icon for the course in question. Select the start and end dates of the range of assignments you wish to delete. Full instructions are displayed on that page.
Are assignments
dated and sorted and easily printed?
Your assignments are displayed
by date, and sorted from most recent to oldest. You can reverse the sort order
with one click of the mouse. View either the seven most recent assignments, or
all assignments. The printout is convenient and very easy to read.
How can I hide an entire course from students, not just individual assignments?
All the assignments associated with a course may be hidden, but the only way to remove a complete course is to delete it.
How can my course description be viewed by the students?
Students can view the course description by placing the cursor over the Course ID number on their Personal Page Courses tab.
Must all the
teachers at a school participate?
No. Even if a school has
registered to participate it is up to the individual teachers to post their
assignments. Students and parents will use the site if teachers consistently
post assignments. Teachers are also motivated when they hear encouragement from
their students and parents.
How can I view the courses and assignments of the other registered teachers at my school?
On your personal webpage, click the Other Teachers link in the header menu.
What about
security for the assignments?
We verify the teachers by
contacting the school before approving their registration. All teachers create
their own username and password so no one else can access their pages. Teachers
may change their password from their Personal Page and in fact they are
encouraged to change their password on a regular basis.
What is "User ID" and "Password" on the Teachers page and how do I
get mine?
You create your own username and password
when you register with us. The username and password allow
you to access your Teacher's Personal Page where you can update daily or weekly
assignments, check your email, and manage your web page. You are emailed the information
when you are approved by yourhomework.com.
Can I print an
informative letter for the parents?
You may download and print a
sample introduction letter explaining yourhomework.com's services to
your students' parents. Information for parents is also available in our
Parents FAQ section.
Can I print a flyer to inform schools about K12mobile?
Yes. To let your school or district know about K12Mobile, we've created a flyer
that you can download and print. Distribute to principals and school/district
administrators. K12mobile is affordable, simple, and effective.
What is the Library
Alert Service?
Library Alert Service is designed
to allow teachers and librarians to work together. Teachers select
participating local libraries to be notified of research assignments. When the
teacher enters an assignment in yourhomework.com, a box can be marked to send a
copy to the selected libraries. Local librarians can then prepare for the
students by knowing about the topic in advance.
How can principals monitor teacher homework posting?
Principals will receive a weekly email report that lists all
registered teachers that have fallen behind in their posting by more
than 7 days. The report shows the date of the most recent assignment,
and also links to the list of all teachers posting homework for the
school. It's an excellent way to stay informed and reward
participating teachers.
How can a principal remove redundant teacher accounts?
Simply contact us and provide the teacher names along with the logins (if available) of the teachers that are no longer associated with your school.
I changed schools. How can I change the school that shows up on my webpage?
To change the school associated with your account, contact us with details of the new school. We will contact the school to verify your identity and employment status. When you see that your details have been updated in your Personal Page Info tab, edit your web page and the school will be updated automatically when you save the page.
