Privacy Policy
Teachers: yourhomework.com only collects personally identifiable data from teachers when voluntarily submitted during registration. Teacher names and school names will be posted on yourhomework.com to identify the information posted to the site. In some instances we will contact registered teachers to inform them of changes or upgrades to our services via email and email newsletters.
Students and Parents: YourHomework.com (YHW) is committed to providing teachers with a method of posting homework assignments for their students while making parental involvement as simple as a click of the mouse. YHW will use its best efforts to safeguard all personal information collected on-line. YHW adheres to the rules and regulations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 2000 (COPPA), and does not collect personally-identifiable information from children at any point in the online experience. YHW is dedicated to helping teachers, parents and children exercise control over personal information while exploring the Internet. Since a substantial number of our users are children in elementary school between 5 and 10 years of age, we ensure that our content is suitable for children. We have monitoring policies that will eliminate offensive language or users who violate YHW's policies and procedures, and we verify the identity of all teachers over the phone.
At YHW, we continue to implement procedures to help children protect their privacy while on-line. Parents using the website are asked to disclose the minimal amount of personal information necessary to verify their child's identity. This information will never be publicly disclosed on the YHW website.
Below is a summary of our current information practices. YHW, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to modify our information practices to further protect our users, as our usage increases, or to provide new services and programs.
I. The Information
The only personally identifiable information connected or associated in any way with children is collected when parents sign their children up for YHW. Parents are required to provide billing information, which includes billing address, telephone number, e-mail address, and credit card information. YHW uses this information to send users an email message informing them that their YHW account has been activated, and the address is used to send out billing statements along with updates on new developments at YHW.
YHW may also collect information about your computer hardware and software. This information may include your IP (Internet Protocol) address, browser type, ISP (Internet Service Provider), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks, domain names, access times and referring website addresses. YHW uses this information to administer the yourhomework.com site, to detect problems with our servers, maintain the quality of the YHW programs and services and to track traffic patterns on the yourhomework.com site.
II. How We Use the Information
We use visitors' personal information only to allow users to post and receive school assignments. We use student login names to track how many students log in and which features, such as homework assignments, they access. We use the e-mail addresses of parents to notify them when we have received information from their children and to give them the opportunity to have their child's name removed from our lists. We use the names and e-mail addresses of subscribers to our e-mail newsletter only to send them the newsletter. Each newsletter contains instructions on how to be removed from the newsletter list by sending us a return e-mail.
YHW sometimes uses non-personally identifiable information collected to improve the design and content of our site, to personalize our visitors' experience on YHW, and to offer products, programs, and services. We also may use this information in the aggregate to analyze site usage, as well as to offer products, programs, or services.
YHW shall have a right to disclose certain information maintained on our system if required by law (e.g. in response to a court order or a subpoena). YHW shall also have a right to disclose such information in response to a law enforcement agency's request. In the event that such disclosure is necessary, YHW will provide notice to its users that the information was disclosed and the purpose for the disclosure, unless otherwise directed by the court not to do so.
YHW will not use or transfer personally identifiable information in ways that are materially different from the ones described above without also providing parental notification of such practices and obtaining consent for any materially different uses.
III. Collection of Information by Third-Party Sites and Sponsors
YHW sites contain links to other sites, including those of sponsors and advertisers, and affiliated merchants whose information practices may be different from ours. YHW is not responsible for the processing of any transactions or orders placed on such affiliated merchants' web sites, nor shall YHW be responsible for the content or privacy practices of such affiliated merchants. Visitors are therefore encouraged to read over all the other sites' privacy notices, prior to providing any information since those sites are not covered by our privacy policy and may not follow the same procedures as YHW. YHW will never provide a user's e-mail address to sponsors without prior permission from the user. However, a user may choose to "opt-in" (click on a box to receive a sponsor's information), to register with one of our sponsors, or not to "opt-out" (uncheck a checked box that will provide a sponsor with your information). YHW takes no responsibility for any information provided to or from our sponsors once authorized by the user.
IV. Cookies
YHW uses a software technology called "cookies." Cookies are information text files generated by a Web server and stored in the user's computer for future access. Cookies are embedded in the HTML information flowing back and forth between the user's computer and the servers. Cookies themselves do not contain any personally identifiable information. YHW cookies enable YHW to relate a visitor's use of this Web site to personal information that a visitor has provided, such as an e-mail address, and what school sites they use frequently. We use this cookie to identify existing registered users so that they may receive a start page more optimized for registered users than for new users and to maintain session information to prevent the need for logged-in members to re-enter login information when browsing outside of the yourhomework.com site. We also use cookies to determine how many visitors we have and how often they visit various sections of our site.
V. Security
YHW has put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security, and correctly use the information we collect on-line. The security of your personal information is of the utmost importance. All credit card information is transmitted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts any information you input. Your personal information is kept in a highly secure environment protected from access by unauthorized parties.
VI. K-12 Mall
K-12 Mall enables users to direct rebates to schools or individual classrooms by purchasing merchandize from a list of merchants by first going through our website. The K-12 Mall is an optional program to all YHW's registered users. You are advised to review the privacy policies of all merchants taking part in this program.
VII. Ads
We allow third-party companies to serve ads and/or collect certain anonymous information when you visit our web site. These companies may use non-personally identifiable information (e.g., click stream information, browser type, time and date, subject of advertisements clicked or scrolled over) during your visits to this and other Web sites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services likely to be of greater interest to you. These companies typically use a cookie or third party web beacon to collect this information. To learn more about this behavioral advertising practice or to opt-out of this type of advertising, you can visit http://www.networkadvertising.org

X. YHW'S Mission
YHW is committed to providing a safe and cost effective 24/7 method of obtaining on-line information to keep parents up-to-date with their children's homework assignments and school activities. YHW also understands that schools are constantly seeking additional funding sources to expand the programs and services offered to children. With that in mind, YHW has implemented a dynamic revenue sharing model. Every time a parent purchases an item from through the K-12 Mall the parent has the option of having a percentage of the purchase price to be donated to the school or schools of their choice. YHW believes that the website is another way for parents, children and teachers to feel a sense of community and to make a tangible difference in their local schools.
If you have any comments or ideas on how YHW can further advance our mission please contact our office or submit a letter or postcard. Once again thank you and welcome aboard.
